We all have things in our lives that we aren’t necessarily fond of. Things that maybe are beyond our control. Things that stress us out when we think about them. Fears we have. Things that maybe we knew better, but we didn’t do better. Things we really don’t want to do but have a hard time not doing them. These things are cycling through our mind on the daily. It’s like they’re on replay in our subconscious.
Often the harder you try to NOT think about them or do them, the stronger they present themselves in your mind. Distractions only work for short periods of time because that is only a temporary fix. So what do you do? What do you do when there’s just sh*t you don’t want to do anymore and can’t seem to kick the habit?
I’m talking about mental habits.
Habits formed out of comfort.
Actions you usually respond with. Words that are comfortable to use. Thoughts you are used to thinking.
These kind of habits.
How do we bust them up, break them down and rid ourselves of them completely?
Because quite frankly – these are the habits that will change your entire life experience. These are the ones we formed from all those past experiences. Some refer to them as “knee-jerk reactions.” It’s your go-to method of survival when you’re uncomfortable, scared or simply don’t know what to do.
Most often our response to things that push us out of our comfort zones is fearful resistance. If you’re used to running in the opposite direction when something unfolds that you haven’t experienced before – than that is you resisting due to fear. You aren’t sure what to expect or how to navigate it, so you turn and run.
Perhaps you obsess and dwell when something doesn’t go the way you planned. You let it run through your mind all day, everyday on repeat like a broken record. It doesn’t make you feel good but you know no different because in the past, this was your coping mechanism. This is how you got through – you analyzed, tried to rationalize and make sense of it all. It probably never worked and it probably only made you feel crappy – but you did it regardless.
Guess what….if you keep doing what you’ve been doing, you’ll keep getting what you always got.
If obsessing never solved the problem before – what makes you think it will now?
If working harder and stressing out about finding that job never landed you the actual job – why keep stressing?
If running away when you’ve entered unknown territory only left you feeling angry and regretful – why do it again?
Life only repeats what we once experienced in our past when we choose to have it repeat.
That’s right…it is a CHOICE!
Our minds will always recycle our old habits and ways of thinking and feeling IF we allow them to. It’s not hard to change the channel in your mind to experience something new in your reality. It’s not hard at all – it’s actually quite simple.
The only thing you need to get past are your own mental limitations. That fearful comfort zone you’ve planted yourself in and refuse to leave. If you want to stay in fear’s waiting room – don’t expect to experience any beauty. All the beauty you wish to see and feel and experience in your life is right through that waiting room door. But you need to get your ass off the couch and move in that direction.
Do the OPPOSITE of what you’ve always done in this situation.
If you yell…this time stay calm.
If you run…this time stay put.
If you try harder…this time stop efforting.
If you doubt…this time trust.
If you obsess…this time think about what feels good instead.
You are at this point in your life for a reason. But there’s just some sh*t you want to be different. Stop doing that thing you always have done before. It’s not going to be comfortable at first but I’m telling you that is only because you are shifting out of fear. You need to realize that situations repeat themselves in our lives often because we didn’t learn our lesson the first time. We didn’t grow from the experience. So the Universe sent it to you in another form to retake the test. If you answered B the first time around and you got it wrong – why not try A this time?
You are not going to keep taking the same test, answering the same question you always get wrong, the same way you always have and expect the answer to suddenly be right…are you?
No dolls…go about it differently! You are far too smart to keep doing the same things over and over that are not giving you the outcomes you desire. CHOOSE A DIFFERENT ANSWER!
You only have two answers to choose from and B is no longer an option.
So what are you going to do?
I hope this article served you. If it did, please leave a comment and share with your friends!
