I read an article yesterday that said that whenever we perceive a lack of something (be it money, food, time, etc.) we become so absorbed by it that our thinking is altered. It went on to say that “scarcity captures the mind.” Scarcity meaning a lack or shortage of. Or another definition being, “having seemingly unlimited human wants and needs in a world of limited resources.” For instance, if you’re driving in a bad snowstorm, your main focus is on the road ahead of you due to the dangerous conditions. Those conditions limit you from being able to observe things you might have noticed on a sunny day outside. That means road signs, billboards, trees, anything in your periphery. You’ve limited your thinking and your perception because in this case, safety was your focus.

The saying goes, “Don’t lose sight of the forest for the trees.” Don’t be so focused on one beautiful tree that you forget about all the other millions of trees in the forest. Basically, don’t become so involved in the little details that you lose sight of the big picture. Today’s Daily Affirmation is:

I will always remember to keep an open mind, open heart and never limit my vision.
