Life happens when you’re making other plans. And as that Ferris Bueller quote goes, “…if you don’t stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.” My week has gone by so incredibly fast and tomorrow I officiate a dear friend’s wedding which gave me a huge reminder as I was speaking with the bride today that it’s important to stop and take it all in sometimes.
As I was saying the words to her, I was realizing I needed those exact words for myself as well. It’s so important to just stop and look around, see how far you’ve come, breathe it all in and truly immerse yourself in what is right now. We sometimes forget to take it all in – the right now that is. The present moment! We sometimes forget to appreciate the journey thus far and get excited for where we are heading. It was so easy to say this to a friend about to get married because that’s a brand new life journey you’re about to embark on – but outside of marriage, it’s really important to do the same thing.
I told the bride that I know how she often likes to put everyone else first but that I really wanted her to remember this was her day and it will pass her by in a blink of an eye so cherish these moments and really feel your way through them step by step. If we could all practice this mindful act daily we would be able to see much clearer how much progress we’re actually making within ourselves and in our lives, relationships, careers, etc. We get so caught up in the nonsense and the details that we easily forget the bigger picture. The bigger picture is this life that we’re living is meant for growth, learning and healing and that stuff won’t stop until we die. Rather than dwell on the “how much furthers” and the “what elses” and the “why not me” – why don’t we just look around and appreciate right where we are at. Because right where we are at, at the pace we’re moving, in the direction we’re going, is exactly where we’re meant to be. Take in the sights. Enjoy the process. Breathe it all in. Love it all out. Say thank you for it all! Today’s Daily Affirmation is:
