We think about a lot of things all day long. Each one of us has words, ideas, responsibilities, hopes, dreams, worries running in and out of our mind daily. If you think any of these are idle thoughts though, you are mistaken. Not a single thought is powerless. It doesn’t matter whether you speak it out loud or keep it to yourself, everything we think, we are creating. So many people get overwhelmed by this idea and panic at the thought that what they thought might be a realistic concern could actually be manifested into existence just by thinking about it all together. That’s totally logical to want to panic, but do you want to live in a state of fear all your life? Probably not and that’s where these simple tools come into play.
Mindfulness is:
“the intentional, accepting and non-judgmental focus of one’s attention on the emotions, thoughts and sensations occurring in the present moment.”
Basically the concept of paying attention to what you are thinking, feeling, seeing and experiencing is classified as mindfulness. The key words though are “accepting without judgment.” Hard right? How does one think about something and not judge it as “good” or “bad,” “wrong” or “right”. Isn’t that what we were trained to do as humans? Label and classify things. Place them into little boxes on neatly organized shelves in our mind so we can keep track of them all? NO! Somewhere along the way we were confused. We were mislead. We were made to think that there is a good or bad and a wrong and a right. When we view the world as a ‘whole’ however, there can be no sides because we are all connected as one. So if you’re wrong, I’m also wrong.

So how do you monitor these thoughts? Keep them in check?
Write it out. Our power is limitless. When you understand this, you will take the time to care about what your mind does all day long. I used to fight this process. My mind over-works. I used to think way too much. When I started writing down what was going through my mind every 30-60 minutes, I could visually see how irrational my thinking was. NONE of my thoughts were about the present moment. ALL of my thoughts were about what was or what could be. I was dwelling in the past and future-tripping, but I was not present in the now. I was missing life right before my eyes. That needed to stop immediately!
The radical shift came when I started making journaling a part of my morning routine. My rituals each morning consist strictly of things that will benefit my mind, body and soul. If I don’t take the time to do them, I feel a huge difference. Since everything internally works together as a whole to make us function, we need to also understand that when we care for that process lovingly – everything works together externally as a whole to function for that which is our highest good. If I take the time to love and care for myself and lean into what brings me joy, I will experience that love, care and joy from people in my life. If I take the time to keep my thoughts positive and aligned with my highest good, I will see and experience my highest good. If I let life take over, which it so easily can since there’s so much stuff to distract us, I will lose myself and watch how the world I experience is out of balance because I am out of balance.

It’s important as I tell all of my clients to take time for YOU every day. I’ve heard it all from, “I don’t have time for me,” to “Yeah right!” Listen, you are no good to anyone else in your life if you aren’t good to yourself. My clients who have made a point of doing something, anything for themselves each day have seen a huge shift in all areas of their lives. This is what happens. This is what being “whole” means. Care for yourself and the world and people in it will also care for you. Treat yourself as if you are unimportant and unworthy and you will experience just that in your life, career and relationships.
Part of that “ME” time should be caring wholeheartedly about the way you speak to yourself, about yourself and about others. Caring about the thoughts you think about those in your life and those you wish to be in your life. You are thinking/speaking it all into existence.
Sit down today at some point and write down what you’re thinking about. It doesn’t need to be formal. Slap some bullet points on the page and just write what comes to mind. This is the first step in putting your life in perspective because it will reveal what your mind is doing. It’ll become clear to you any questions you are having can easily be answered when you reveal the truth in your thoughts.
