Stay in the present moment and when your mind begins to wander (which it will try, I promise you that!) steer it right back to the here and now by expressing gratitude for what is. It really might feel silly at first if this is something new to you, but what I like to tell clients to do the minute they feel their mind leave the present and begin future-tripping – look at something right in front of you and express out loud, “That’s Amazing!”
This little trick is something I personally learned from an experiment in one of Pam Grout’s books. Needless to say, even if you REALLY don’t think whatever you just looked at is amazing, stating that phrase out loud shifts your mind to a state of gratitude. It works immediately upon leaving your mouth and you can then once again leave what was where it was and what may be or will be where it could it and focus on what is right now.
